The Rise of the Chief Wellbeing Officer

Why “Chief Wellbeing Officers” Are Being Appointed Worldwide

Chief Wellbeing Officers have appeared in C-Suites for a while. They’re often found at organizations focused on human resources or health such as global HR consulting firm Deloitte or medical schools such as the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. They reflect the greater focus on employee well-being after COVID-19. Nearly 1 billion people around the world currently have mental health issues. Chronic depression and anxiety, in particular, cost the world an estimated $1 trillion in lost economic productivity annually. Holistic mental health and wellness issues will likely be integrated into business strategy and employee lifecycle management processes in organizations.

Chief Wellbeing Officers are often associated with HR work, corporate strategy, and corporate image management and management to set vision and policy frameworks. They formulate strategies, action plans, and welfare in the organization. They build strategic partnerships and encourage employees to practice behaviors that promote good health in both work and personal life. They work to prevent employees burning out and to reduce the risk of health problems. They set working policies and work environment management. They organize campaign activities and projects to enable employees to work efficiently.

Organizations seek to retain and develop high-performing employees, both professionally and as corporate citizens. They aim to promote their image to continue to attract new employees by using concepts such as PRISM for vision and foresight (P for prospection, R for resilience and cognitive agility, I for creativity and innovation, R for rapid rapport, S for social support, M for meaning and mattering). The internal communications team also plays a role. A survey found that 60% of employees worldwide want to know the thoughts and opinions of executives on the social and political issues that interest them.

Implications for the future:

- Psychologists and HR workers around the world will see new career opportunities. Consulting firms and holistic mental health and wellness services businesses for corporate clients (B2B) will emerge and become a market to watch in the future.

- Organizations outside the health field will pay more attention to the health of employees, especially those working with technology, interacting with machines and artificial intelligence including software developers.
